I want to share about my favorite beach in Jogjakarta: Sundak Beach! It’s located in Wonosari District. We can reach this beach in about 1,5 hours with motorbike/car from Jogja. You want to walk there? No no no no, it’s strongly not recommended! 🙂
Sundak Beach consist of 2 parts – left and right. These separation is made by the huge coral rocks. The left part of Sundak Beach is sloppy, while the right one is more plain.
If you come to this beach at noon, you’ll get a land of coral with a thin layer of sea water. You know that at noon, the sea gets a low-tide, right? That’s why, at this time, you can walk on the coral rocks that formed the base of Sundak’s coastal part. The amazing thing is, there’s a pretty large area on the left shore that has sands as the base, instead of coral rocks. So, it will still be safe for you to swim.
Around the beach, there are some eating places with limited food and beverage varieties: fried rice, fried noodle, soto, soft drink, tea, etc.
On the beach, there are some wooden hut (without walls), so your skin can take a rest awhile from the UV radiation while you’re in it. Some local people provides beach umbrellas closer to the sea, for rent.
Actually, there’s not many activities you can do in Sundak. If you are the adventurous type, you will hate Sundak Beach. It’s more like a quiet place to enjoy the scenery, take pictures, swim, sun-bathing, lay down and read, or something like that.
The money you might spend here depends on what you want to do. These are the approximations budget:
- Gasoline: IDR 10.000 – 15.000 (motorbike) OR IDR 80.000 – 100.000 (car)
- Rent a car without driver: IDR 150.000
- Retribution fee: IDR 4.000 per pax OR IDR 20.000 per car (5 – 6 persons)
- Parking: IDR 2.000 – 3.000
- Food and drink: IDR 15.000 – 25.000
- Beach umbrella: IDR 20.000 – 50.000 (forgot…)
You have to see it yourself, so that you can decide if you like this beach or not. Just one thing for sure, Sundak will still be my favorite beach in Jogja! 😉
